SITE AND OBJECTIVE
Birmingham Coach Station is a major coach interchange based in Digbeth High Street in Birmingham (United Kingdom), about a 10-minute walk to the City Centre. Offering services to destinations throughout the island of Great Britain and also to Belfast and Dublin. Birmingham Coach Station has over 100 coach routes stopping at Birmingham. It is a big modern coach station with excellent facilities including a ticket office, an on-site cafe, a WHSmith newsagent, airport-style departure gates and a visitor car park. Birmingham Coach Station car park offers around 15 parking spaces for visitors. 50% of the spaces were occupied by motorists who were not visitors. Motorists were parking in the car park and heading into the City Centre. It was significantly clear that there was a requirement for Parking Enforcement on the site.
In 2017 Euro Parking Services (Car Park Management Company in Birmingham) were chosen to operate on the site. We decided to implement a long-term car park management solution that will help stop motorists from abusing the site.
SOLUTION PROVIDED
We opted for an Automatic Number Plate Recognition Camera in the car park with a maximum stay of 30 minutes for visitors of the coach station. Once a site evaluation was conducted on the site, we then commenced with the ANPR installation along with signage installation, a Site Audit and a Risk Assessment were carried out on the site. The service provided to the client was a funded option, where EPS installed and maintained all the Capital Expenditure on the site. In return, we offered our client a share of the Net Revenue.
OUTCOME
Since implementing a car number plate recognition system in the car park, we have noticed a huge decrease in motorists abusing the car park. This leaves more parking spaces for genuine visitors to the coach station. If you own land or a car park, we can help you make some additional revenue from it.
