Thanet Parkway
Located between Ramsgate and Minster, Thanet Parkway opened to customers on 31st July 2023. The station serves as a key transport hub connecting the Thanet area with London and other parts of Kent, boosting its economy by bringing in new businesses and jobs. The area’s leisure and tourism industry has also benefited greatly from the opening of this station. However, the station faced notable setbacks due to increased traffic and the rising number of visitors.
After thoroughly examining the site, our team intervened and discussed the challenges with the council, highlighting the negative impact on railway passengers and traffic in the area. This case study demonstrates how our implementation of technology-driven solutions has significantly improved the parking situation at Thanet Parkway, resulting in a hassle-free parking experience.
Problems Faced by Thanet Parkway
Thanet Parkway features a spacious parking facility designed to accommodate a significant number of vehicles. It offers 293 parking spaces, including 16 designated for Blue Badge holders and 12 electric vehicle charging points. Additionally, secure cycle racks are provided. Despite this, the facility faced a significant shortage of parking spots due to increasing cases of parking abuse. This misuse of parking spaces caused chaos and inconvenienced both passengers and staff.
The overflow of vehicles in the surrounding area affected not only traffic but also the safety of pedestrians and cyclists navigating the crowded vicinity. Passengers frequently experienced delays due to road congestion, resulting in frustration and a poor user experience, as many found themselves stuck in traffic while rushing to catch their trains.
The station’s parking challenges also negatively impacted local businesses, as customers struggled to reach shops due to congestion. These factors underscored the urgent need for a comprehensive solution, recognised by both the council and us.
Parking Solutions Crafted by Our Team
Our team implemented a robust parking management system featuring Pay-and-Display machines and the Ringo Mobile application. These solutions enhanced motorists’ convenience and made parking more structured.
- Pay-and-Display Machines
To address the parking issues of Thanet Parkway, we installed advanced Omne Pay-and-Display machines, enabling users to pay for parking before leaving their vehicles. The machines ensured convenience by accepting various payment methods and limited parking spaces to legitimate users, thereby reducing unwarranted usage. These weatherproof machines operate efficiently in all conditions, promoting compliance with parking rules.
- Ringo Mobile Application
For motorists’ convenience, we introduced the Ringo mobile application. This app eliminates the need for cash or physical interactions with machines by allowing users to pay for parking via their smartphones. Motorists can save time by managing parking without searching for payment machines. Additionally, Ringo enables users to extend their parking sessions remotely, avoiding unnecessary stress. Notably, most payments for parking at Thanet Parkway are made via the Ringo application, preferred for its user-friendly design.
- Drive for Maintaining Hygiene
Our team also created a welcoming environment by prioritising cleanliness and hygiene in the parking space. By maintaining clean spaces, we demonstrated our commitment to a user-centric approach, leaving a positive impression on users and contributing to community well-being.
Key Improvements and Outcomes
The deployment of Omne Pay-and-Display machines and the Ringo application produced the following benefits:
- Reduction in unwarranted and overnight parking
- Improved road accessibility and navigation, enabling passengers to reach the station on time
- Enhanced passenger satisfaction, as users no longer face last-minute rushes or delays
- Recognition and appreciation from local authorities and communities
- Assurance for passengers that they will find parking spots without unnecessary delays
By introducing a structured and technology-driven payment solution, our team transformed the parking situation at Thanet Parkway. This intervention not only significantly improved user experience by alleviating congestion issues, but also positively impacted local businesses by resolving parking-related challenges.
The Thanet Parkway case exemplifies how effective parking management can revolutionise transportation hubs, demonstrating our ability to deliver sustainable, user-friendly solutions.
